Hi,
I wish you guys got more scholarly people to talk about or criticise islam. Mr. Ansari made few comments about Quran which are simply incorrect namely:
- Quran says suleiman flew of a carpet with an army of a million people. Fact: this is nowhere to be found in Quran.
- that jewish tribe that was killed was killed because of their refusal of islam. This historically incorrect, they were killed because of treason and alliance with the enemy in the siege of medina by the army of Qureish allies, after a treaty with mohammed to help protect medina in time of war. I am not defending it, all am saying is Mr. Ansari was not intellectually honest when talking about this.
- the idea that Quran does not have any morality in it is factually wrong, there are endless verses about charity, helping the poor, helping the orphans, looking after parents, forgiving people even if they harm you, being just in judgments even against one self, patience, compassion, modesty and humbleness, gentleness in speech, selflessness, work for common good…etc.
One can criticise religion without tuning things into a simplistic “Islam is all bad” message because this basically turning into anti-religious apologist doing the same things that religious apologists do, namely cherry pick verses to make points as opposed to scholarly analysis of the totality of the religious texts.
